Scale Breaker Equipped Push-Pull Pickling Line for Medium-Width Strips (800–1,350 mm)

A scale breaker operates by subjecting the strip to controlled tension and alternating bending forces, causing plastic elongation of up to 7%. This mechanical action performs two essential functions:

  • Scale Breaking – The bending stresses crack the iron oxide layer, allowing acid to penetrate and dissolve scale uniformly. Research confirms that pickling efficiency is maximised when elongation does not exceed 7% on a tension‑leveler‑type scale breaker.
  • Shape Correction – The leveling process eliminates edge waves, centre waves, buckles, warping, and camber, redistributing internal stresses to achieve flatness below 5 IU.
