As BYD’s new Brazil factory rolls out electric vehicles for Latin America, advanced metallurgical technology back in China is ensuring the quality of the sheet metal used in these cars. At the heart of this process is the tension leveler—a critical piece of equipment in cold rolling mills that guarantees perfect flatness and surface quality for strip steel.

01 Zhanjiang Steel’s $10M Continuous Tension Leveling Line

Baosteel’s Zhanjiang facility is investing ¥70 million in a new continuous tension leveling line for its 1780 hot-rolled strip division. The line will include deep-bending rolls, uncoilers, five-roller straighteners, and tension leveling units, all integrated with Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems. This upgrade highlights the growing role of smart control in modern steel processing.

02 Jinchang Nickel’s Floating-Type Leveling System for Specialty Copper

Jinchang Nickel & Mining unveiled a floating composite tension leveling device designed for shaped copper strips. Using dual correction systems—CPC (center position control) and EPC (edge position control)—it ensures precise alignment during leveling. The device’s adjustable expansion rolls accommodate varying coil diameters and thicknesses, improving versatility while cutting equipment costs.

03 30 MN Stretching-Leveler Breakthrough by China Heavy Machinery

China Heavy Machinery Research Institute secured a contract from Southwest Aluminum for a 30 meganewton hydraulic stretching and leveling machine. The system features full-floating tension control, synchronized clamping jaws, and automatic fracture prediction. It enables separate control of total and segmented elongation rates—boosting both precision and automation in aluminum profile processing.

04  MCC Southern’s Heavy Reduction Tech Cuts Tension Leveler Use by 50%

MCC Southern’s heavy reduction technology for special steel billet casting reduces the number of tension levelers required by 50–80%. In one revamp project, just 9 levelers—including 3 dual-module and 3 single-frame units—were used to perform combined light and heavy reduction operations, offering major cost savings and layout flexibility.

From smarter tension levelers to stronger, flatter sheet metal, these innovations are supporting the global expansion of Chinese manufacturing—one precision-leveled strip at a time.
